Lynewood, Aigburth

Lynewood, Aigburth Drive, Liverpool

Lynewood, Aigburth Drive, Liverpool. Lynewood is the name of a property in Aigburth Drive in Liverpool, England. Aigburth Drive is close to Aigburth Road, and is in the south of Liverpool. Lynewood is a detached property, which overlooks Sefton Park. Lynewood probably dates to Victorian times. People may walk or drive past the property, without thinking too much about it, but I have looked a little more into some of the past 'residents', who were there in 1901.

According to the 1901 census, the head of family was Elizabeth Melladew, who was aged 52 at her last birthday. She was a widow and living on own means. Where the family's 'money' came from, I am not sure.

Elizabeth Melladew had at least two daughters and two sons, and these were 'staying' with her on the night of the census. She also had a brother-in-law and three servants of hers 'staying' with her on that night.

Elizabeth Melladew's 'children' who were 'resident' on the night of the census were: 1) Edward Melladew, who was an apprentice cotton merchant. He was aged 21 at his last birthday. 2) Ethel M. Melladew, who was 23 at her last birthday. 3) Leonard Melladew who was an electrical engineer. He was 18 at his last birthday. 4) Marjorie Melladew, who was 16 at her last birthday.

The three servants were called Sarah Martin, Annie M. Wood and Mary E. Wood. Sarah was a certificated nurse, Annie a cook domestic and Mary a housemaid domestic.

You may wish to research the Melladew family, or the property known as Lynewood. Should any of the above census information be of interest to you, you are advised to check it against the original source. This 1901 census information was taken from www.1901officialcensus.co.uk. They have agreed to its' use.
